September 9, 2019

Explorers get to experience firsthand what it’s like to be a volunteer or full-time firefighter and first responder through firefighting training and emergency medical training.
Explorers will:
 Learn important leadership skills
 Participate in hands-on experiences
 Learn about educational requirements to serve as a volunteer or career in the fire and emergency services and receive tangible advice on steps you can take now to prepare and position yourself for a successful career in the field of fire and EMS
 Or just have fun and experience the field with no commitment to go into the service
Explorers meet once a week at the Penny Farcy Memorial & Fire Training Center building on Wednesdays from 18:00-20:00 during the school year. The cost of the program will be for a uniform belt and steel-toed boots, $11 for a Washington State Patrol background check and a sports physical through your own doctor. Some classroom time and all community service time spent in the program can be applied towards your community service hours for school.
Requirements to Join:
1. Complete Vashon Fire Application
2. Complete BSA Application
3. Submit a background check through Washington State Patrol WATCH Program (within two weeks of the program)
4. Submit a Sports Physical (within two weeks of the program)
