Assistant Chief George Brown and Chief Lipe
Vashon Island Fire & Rescue welcomes our new Assistant Chief, George Patrick Brown.
Chief Brown comes to Vashon from the Pullman Fire Department where he has worked as Deputy Chief since 2005. He has over 23 years of fire service experience, 19 of which were working with a combination department. He said, “I realize it is a continuous job trying to keep harmony with a combo department, while meeting the expectations of the community, state, and federal laws.”
Brown is a community-oriented person with an extensive volunteer history, coaching Little League and Babe Ruth baseball, flag and tackle football, as well as Boys and & Girls Club basketball for which he received an award as the Lewiston/Clarkston Boys & Girls Club Coach of the Year.
Chief Lipe said of Brown, “I have been impressed with his abilities since I first met him. His personality, experience, and understanding of the fire and Emergency Medical Services in Washington will be critical to my vision of improving Vashon Island Fire and Rescue. George’s confidence coupled with his established achievements is a perfect match for our rebuilding efforts. I am ecstatic that he has accepted the challenges facing our organization.”
In answering the question why he wanted to move his family to Vashon, Brown stated, “I would like to bring my enthusiasm and skills to Vashon Island so I can contribute to your department and community in order to make it a better place. The research I have done on Vashon Island leads me to believe it is a place I could call home.”
