Residential Land Burn Permit

please Read the following before applying for a

permit


Call  VIFR's burn line, 463-9495 to find out if burning is

"open", if burning is "closed" do not burn until reopened. 

Be aware that Puget Sound Air Quality may announce a

burn ban via radio or TV on weekends or holidays, adhere

to their messages, as our burn line will not be updated

until the next business day.

Judgement regarding wind conditions must be used to

prevent spread of fire or unpleasant emissions to neigh-

boring homes. 

A person capable of extinguishing the fire must attend it

at all times and the fire must be extinguished before

leaving it unattended..

Burn barrels are prohibited for all uses in Washington

State

Burn only during daylight hours and one (1) pile at a time,

one

pile must be extinguished before lighting another.

Fires must not include material hauled from another

property,  e.g. neigbors.

Burn only natural vegetation; No treated or untreated

lumber, garbage, plastic, dead animals, petroleum

products, paint, etc.,

or any substance that emits dense smoke or obnoxious

odors. Petroleum products many not be used to start or

intensify the fire.

No burning within 20' of structures, near or under trees

or wood fence.

No running fires.

No pile larger then 4 feet in diameter, area around pile

must be cleared.,

Adequate water must be available; charged garden hose

or enough water containers to completely extinguish the

fire.

Judgment regarding wind conditions must be used to

prevent spread of fire or unpleasant emissions to neigh-

boring homes. A fan may be used to ensure a hot clean

burning fire.

Beach fires can only be burned below the high tide line.

UNLAWFUL OUTDOOR BURNING: It is unlawful for any

person

to cause or allow outdoor burning that causes an emission

of smoke or any other air contaminant that is detrimental to

the health, safety or welfare or any person that causes

damage to property or business, or that causes a nuisance, (RCW 70.94.040, 70.94.650 (1) and 70.94780)

Any person responsible for unlawful outdoor burning must immediately extinguish the fire.

Any person affected by outdoor burning may file a complaint

with the permitting agency or other designated enforcing

agency.

The Fire District is authorized to inspect the burning site

at any time, without notification.

In responding to an outdoor burn complaint VIFR will attempt

to determine if the burning is unlawful. This may include, but

not limited to considering whether the burning has caused

an emmision of smoke or any other air contaminate in

sufficient quantity to be unlawful.
