Chief Krimmert was chosen from a field of candidates in late 2016 and began his duties as VIFR's Fire Chief in January of 2017.  He is a long time islander with over 16 years experience as a Firefighter, EMT and volunteer officer with Vashon Island Fire and Rescue.  In addition, he has over 30 years experience in business, having served as a Senior Associate Vice-President/Senior Project Manager for a Seattle Architecture firm where he managed multi-million dollar projects with teams of up to 35 architects.  Chief Krimmert has both a bachelor's and master's degree in Architecture from Montana State University.

Assistant Chief of OperationsRobert Larsen

Assistant Chief Robert Larsen at the VIFR 9/11 Memorial

Robert “Bob” Larsen, a Vashon native, applied as a Vashon Island Fire & Rescue volunteer firefighter in December of 1986.  Within the first year he became a First Responder, and later an EMT.  He worked his way through the ranks over the years as a Lieutenant and Captain, becoming a Volunteer Assistant Chief in 2007.

Bob is a veteran of the United States Navy, and after attending Palomar College (California) majoring in Building Inspection/Building Codes/Construction, he applied as Facilities Manager II with the Fire District.  An experienced residential and commercial General Manager, he was selected from a field of candidates in 2001.

On June 16, 2016 upon the retirements of both the Assistant Chief and Fire Chief, Bob was appointed by the Board of Commissioners as the interim Assistant Chief.   The membership was pleased with the Board’s selection, as Bob is intimately familiar with both fire and EMS operations, personnel, and the finances and facilities of the District.

Battalion Chief of Training and Safety - Cari Coll

My tenure at Vashon Island Fire & Rescue began in 2001 when I was hired as a Career Firefighter/EMT.  I was hired when VIFR was transitioning from being an all volunteer to being a combination department.  I was promoted to Battalion Chief of Training & Safety in 2006.  One of my most fulfilling roles is serving as Director for the VIFR Fire Training Academy.

I started in the fire service in 1995 as a volunteer at Kitsap Fire District #7 (now South Kitsap Fire & Rescue) which is where I was hired into my first career position.  I later worked at Mason County Fire District #2 in Belfair and for Puget Sound Federal Fire Department at Subase Bangor.

I am presently pursuing my Bachelor's degree in Fire Service Administration through the National Fire Academy Degrees-at-a-Distance Program at Western Oregon University.  I hold an Associate's degree in Fire Science and an Associate's degree in Business Administration.  I have completed the Training Program Management Course and the Command and Control Decision Making at Multiple Alarm Incidents Course at the National Fire Academy in Maryland.

I served three years as President of the King County Training Officers Association (KCFTOA).  I have been on the KCFTOA Officer Development Academy committee for six years, with over three years as the Chairperson.  I am involved at the state level as a member of the IFSAC Certification Technical Advisory Group.  I actively serve as a Test Control Officer and other roles at certification tests.

My IFSAC certifications include Fire Officer I & II and Instructor I & II.  I am ProBoard certified through the Fire Department Safety Officers Association as a Health & Safety Officer.

Outside of work, I have been a member of Toastmasters since 2007.  I am a volunteer with Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and also participate in charity events to benefit animal welfare.  I enjoy physical fitness activities and am an avid reader.

I live on Fox Island with my boyfriend Randy, our dog and two cats.
