Vashon Island Fire and Rescue is now accepting applications for the 2019 Classes and Academies. The deadline to apply is September 4, 2018. There are many ways to Volunteer, geared for both for those looking to serve their community or those looking to pursue a career in Emergency Services and Healthcare. VIFR prides itself on high standards of training to ensure the residents of Vashon receive quality emergency services. This requires dedicated training, motivated learners and excellent communication skills.
The district offers several training programs for island residents interested in volunteering. Support, are island residents who respond from home in Tenders to bring water to fire scenes. EMT’s (Emergency Medical Technicians), respond to Emergency Medical calls and Firefighters respond for Fire calls. Support and Fire training are done on the island, EMT Class occurs off the island. If you do not live on Vashon you need to have already obtained an EMT Certificate before you apply for EMT or Firefighter positions.
