On Thursday, November 16, 2017, at 11:57 am, VIFR was toned out to a residential fire at the north end of Vashon. The homeowner discovered smoke and flame in the home upon arrival and called it into 911. Crews (11 responders) arrived to find a midsized, two-story, single family residence with smoke visible on both floors and flame visible on the bottom level. No human occupants were in the residence so crews made access to the interior to begin fighting the fire. The fire was fully involved on the first floor and had spread through the walls and ceiling to the second floor making it a challenging firefight. Due to the advancement of the fire before the crews arrived it took approximately 30 minutes to extinguish the fire and it took crews approximately 3.5 hours to complete the overhaul before leaving the scene. The fire investigation is being conducted by KCSO.
