Vashon Island Fire and Rescue will be hosting three Academies next year for on-island residents. Residents are invited to apply for Fire, EMT or Support Academies. Fire Academy is a six month on island training, two nights a week and all day Saturdays. At the end of successful completion, the recruit will be Washington state certified Firefighter One. EMT is three months at an off-island location two nights a week and all day Saturdays which is hosted by King County, followed by three months of in-house on-island training to earn your Emergency Medical Technician Certification. Support training is one-month on-island, to learn to drive and run a Tender.

Interviews will be conducted in October, so now is the time to apply. These academies are provided for free with an agreement of service to on island residents who successfully pass the interview and application process. More detailed descriptions of each one's time commitment can be found in the Volunteer section of our website. All volunteers are required after completing Academy to serve three 12 hour shifts a month for which they receive a stipend. Call 206-463-2405 for questions.
